The name of a family friend of mine called Jeff, inspired this section of the popular book and during the time that I actually chatted to him he mentioned that he loved spending time in the wilderness.

In one of our many conversations, he mentioned a few problems that he had with his arrows (most of which were a problem with a traditional recurve bow which I also have) which made me think about how great it would be to get paid for helping him out.

So that’s what I did, for free, of course!

And, as a bonus, I found out that H’bows were not alone in this problem so I decided to produce this section on making your arrows fly dead straight, and help you avoid the frustration that I have experienced myself in the past.

If you are an archer, hunter, or you dabble in archery with a traditional bow and arrow, and you’re always having to deal with trouble with your arrows flying off course and veering off, then be sure to read the section carefully.

You’ll learn what I did to make my arrows fly dead straight and completely under control just like H’bows wanted.

The truth is, the Gold Tip Ted Nugent Arrows are not the best arrows ever, but they are pretty close. I’m being quite generous in saying this.

This unique arrow design is purposely built to provide its user with the most accuracy possible. The vanes are cut with a straight taper to increase the arrow’s speed and they make sure to stick to the shaft to ensure consistency and accuracy.

Our hunt for the most accurate arrows for hunting started when my buddy lost an arrow in the woods while he was hunting. He wasn’t the first one to lose his arrow and he won’t be the last one.

Pros:

  • Very easy to assemble
  • Flights are very durable
  • Produces a rather accurate grouping

Cons:

  • Will require some assembly

The Carbon Express Mayhem Hunter comes with a 25” length and a 350-grain weight.

I truly appreciate the fact that these arrows have blazon vanes and not feathers like most arrows out there on the market today. Much like Hoyt’s Spire Vanes, the Flaming Vanes from Carbon Express have a low profile design that offers improved accuracy and efficiency.

The vane is also offset in order to ensure a smooth, stress-free release because of its offset design.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the best hunting arrow on the market?

The best arrows for hunting are the ones that help you achieve your desired result. When I was growing up my father and his friends loved hunting deer and elk. Their number one arrow was the 30 inch carbon arrow. They liked the large length because it gave the arrow extra penetration.

Leaving an arrow in the deer… how uncouth.

There are of course hundreds of different hunting arrows on the market today. The best bow hunting arrow will be the one that works for you, blends in with your environment, and gets the job done.

Carbon or aluminum. Aluminum arrows tend to be easier to work with than carbon because they can be reused. The carbon arrows are a bit more delicate, break more easily, and really should be thrown away after a kill.

What's the best carbon arrows for hunting?

Carbon arrows are preferred for hunting for a number of reasons. They are generally higher quality than aluminum arrows, they are more consistent, they fly better, and they are less likely to break on impact. They are also better for the environment as they break down easier than aluminum arrows and have a smaller carbon footprint.

Is a heavier arrow better for hunting?

If you’re a bow hunter, you probably already know that arrows are available in a wide variety of different weights. When hunting, you might think that a heavier arrow is better because it will penetrate better and deliver a more powerful blow to the target. However, many bow hunters say that this is actually untrue. A heavier arrow is more likely to pierce the skin at a shallow angle and bounce right off before delivering a deadly blow. This is because the surface tension on the skin is much higher than on a lighter arrow.

These days, arrow designers have learned how to solve this problem. Even very low-weight arrows are designed to pierce the skin at a very close angle so the arrow will go all the way through the body instead of bouncing off the skin.

What is the best arrow for elk hunting?

If you’re planning on hunting elk with an arrow, then any thing that will work against deer will work against elk. The arrow should have at least a 125-pound pull, a carbon shaft, and a field point that will pierce the animal in the heart. Not only that, but, if you aren’t confident in your skill at delivering a kill shot (which is very important) then you should carry a second arrow (with an impact tip) to insure that it goes in the same place.

Conclusion

This article is one of many from the Dead Straight series, and the focus here is to help you find the best hunting arrows. Choosing the right arrows is an important part of being successful on the field because they’ll affect how much speed you’ll get, how long your shooting distances will be, and of course, how accurate your bow is. This article will provide you with an easy-to-follow guide detailing the different factors to look out for and the best models on the market. We hope that in the end, you’ll have made the right choice in order to increase your chances of hitting your target.
